Thor - Why I dislike the movie!
67
Thor; the movie that everyone is talking about. Cool guy, great character, claimed to be the greatest, charming superhero and most importantly grossing millions of dollars in the first opening weekend. Is it the buzz and rave reviews that have millions of people crazy about this movie? Indeed, any gals will be attracted to Chris Hemsworth almost perfect body lines and sexy voice. I believe that most guys are impressed too and I thought that he was from the World Wrestling Entertainment field. However, I doubt Thor; the character is attractive as Chris Hemsworth.
I actually have no idea of Thor being a marvel superhero. The idea of God of Thunder, from what I knew, comes from the East rather. God of Thunder and God of Rain, they can be two different God or they can be just one God doing both jobs. Anyway different religions have different beliefs while I am just a bit unsure if Thor really fits the purpose.
Computer Generated Imagery CGI
I watched the 3D version. It failed to impress me and I didn’t feel like I was brought into the movie. When in Asgard, the whole place was supposed to be huge and grand. And yes, it was, supposedly. However, the feeling at the time of watching was the actors and actresses were miniature rather than projecting Asgard as huge. Sometimes, the army of Asgard looked as though they were floating rather than marching. The frost giants were gigantic at times but not every time.
Funny?
Thor characters tried to be funny but not very clever. At first, it was hilarious with the van hitting Thor numerous times. However, as the story went, Darcy started to say things which were supposed to be funny but they were not. When Thor’s buddies came to his aid on Earth, some random guy in the movie said he saw Xena and Jackie Chan. If you watched Iron Man and Spiderman, those were different kind of humours. In truth, action speaks louder than word. I read ryuhawk’s hub on Thor’s review and he was very true in saying that Natalie Portman’s character as Jane Foster was poorly developed. Furthermore, I just felt Natalie wasn’t trying to her best in this movie. In a report by The Sun, Natalie commented that this movie doesn’t require a lot of research ahead of time. The interrogation by Agent Coulson was just classic!
Finally …
The most important route to anywhere in the world is guarded by gatekeeper Heimdall and Heimdall only. YOU SHALL NOT PASS! Forgive me for shouting.
In fact, Heimdall is my favourite character in Thor.
These are just my honest opinions after watching the movie premiere. I wonder if you realise something about movies and trailers. When the previews and trailers look good, most probably the movie won’t be any good. The only movie that I believe have good trailers and actually turned out good is Transformers.

I liked it, but to each his own. I will agree that the 3-D was terrible.
I wonder if you had to enjoy the comic book to like the movie. I have not seen it, but will when it comes to the cheap movies or DVD. And Thor was not from the East but a Norse god.
Just saw it yesterday and I'm actually a big fan of comics and comic movies generally. It was better than some of the others (Fantastic Four, Catwoman, Punisher), but was not as good as Iron Man or Spiderman when they came out. I am looking forward to the Avengers movie though where he will reappear and wonder who the villain they will fight is?!
At last I found someone who doesn't think movie is that good. There are a lot of good reviews for this movie so I have great expectations going to the cinema. And knowing Natalie Portman is gonna be in the movie, I'm very excited.
However, story seems too compressed and I'm not convinced with the romance between Thor and Jane. Obviously there would be a sequel and I hope its better.
But rating Chris Hemsworth's body, I'll probably give him 10/10 lol!
I thought it was okay, but mostly I agreed with your assessment of the movie. By the way, those gods are supposed to be norse gods (norway), just in case you're wondering. :-) Voted up and useful!
I thought that it was one of the most boring movies of its kind, The only time I laughed or the audience laughed was when the of the CIA or whatever they were supposed to be, commented on the Super Heroes' abilities and said something like, "Where are they from? Pakistan?" I loved it.
Kenneth Branagh much feel so embarrassed having anything to do with it. Shame on you, Ken.
Two poor movies in a row. The next one I saw was 'Pirates of the Caribbean - Stranger Waters' What a yawn. Everybody in that one must feel embarrassed also.
That's a positive attitude. I really found it quite tedious, and I loved the others... especially the first two.
I'm glad you like my hub. I excel in writing drivel!
I'm a fan of Thor back in the comics days. But I don't know the movie adaptation. I still have to see it myself, if I will follow the screenplay in order to reminisce the heroism of the protagonist. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about the film.
This movie was not made in 3D, which is why it didn't work properly for you. I watched it in 2D, and the scenes of Asgard did indeed look epic. The characters did not look as though they had been miniaturised - they looked properly dwarfed by the scale of the buildings. It worked well on the screen that I saw it on.
I loved this movie. I must have watched it with a particularly jolly (or inebriated?!) and responsive audience, because we all enjoyed lots of laughs. It wasn't perfect of course, but its flaws didn't spoil it for me. I don't agree that Portman wasn't trying hard enough, but I do think that her character wasn't well enough developed at the writing stage to give her anything interesting to work with.
Linda.
See Portman in 'Black Swan', Linda. Great and disturbing movie.

You should like it. Disturbing and "dark" but a really good movie.
I haven't watched this movie yet and the cinemas over here has stopped showing it. Ain't just interest in this film but after learning that it has a quite good rating and comments on imdb, it sparked me to take a look on it, but got to wait for the dvd release.
You have been saved a fate worse than death by a couple of hundred minutes of tedious knife thrusts.
No; sorry. That was 'Thor'... 'Black Swan' is excellent.
I don't know either. I used to go to the cinema a couple to three times a week, but tight now I am doing a bit of writing for myself (at last) and the time slips by.
When I get the next writer's block I'll go again.
Thank you for saving me the trouble of watching this film. I was tempted since Thor was my favorite comic book hero as a kid. Thor was modeled after the Norse God of Thunder. Good review.
Thoroughly enjoyed Thor, looking forward to the Blu-ray.
Pretty good review.

This not my type of movie at all. My kids would like it though. Great hub, well put together and worth reading!
