Let Me In - Why I like the movie!

Synopsis
Chole Grace Moretz (Hit Girl in Kick-Ass) stars as Abby, a mysterious 12-year-old who moves next door to Owen (Kodi Smit-McPhee, The Road), a social outcast who is viciously bullied at school. In his loneliness, Owen forms a profound bond with his new neighbour, but he can’t help noticing that Abby is like no one he has ever met before. As a string of grisly murders grips his wintry New Mexico town, Owen has to confront the reality that this seemingly innocent girl is actually a savage vampire.

Let Me In is a thriller based on the best-selling Swedish novel, Let the Right One In. There is also a Swedish film created based on the novel. Just before writing this hub, I read the many reviews posted in IMDB.com. Like other movies, there are people who love it and there are people who hate it. I love it nonetheless.
Beautiful Love Story
Forget about Twilight. I watched all three Twilight sequels and none of them are as beautiful as Let Me In. Some people may feel that it is disturbing as the love evolves around two underage children. I beg to differ. The way Chloe and Kodi acted in the movie, it’s almost mesmerising and matured. At times, when Abby and Owen are not together, I would be wondering where is Abby or Owen. It’s as if I am worried for them. On the other hand, you could feel that they are really happy when they are together simply because they are both lonely in their own way.
Horror?
This is definitely not the horror movie of the year. Let Me In does not have those crazy effects and the scenes are all pure and original. By that I mean it doesn’t make sudden appearances or sounds just to make you jump from your seat. But still, it chills you at times.
Controversial
As with most films, there will be something to criticise. It just depends on how many of that something to talk about. The character Abby is essentially an old woman trapped in a young girl’s body. Thus, I wouldn’t imagine her falling in love with a boy.
My only guess is that Abby is just trying to find someone to prolong her life which you will see at the end of the movie. I am trying to not giving out too many spoilers here and stay inside the scope of the synopsis.
Finally…
I was attracted by Chloe Moretz’s acting immediately after watching her acting in Kick-Ass the movie. She is really talented at such young age. This hub may be slightly biased because I am like a fan of Chloe but undeniably, her acting deserves to be praised. The movie can progress a little bit slow at times but at the same time, I am eagerly waiting for the next thing to happen as it can be so unpredictable.
Let Me In is the type of movie that brings its audiences into the play as if we are a part of it. All in all, everything seems so perfect that you couldn’t find anything to fault it. Even if there is any, you would just forgive and forget all about it.

Sounds like a really good story. Need to check it out! Have you seen the other vampire flick "Let the Right One In?" If so, what'd you think of that?
I love movies but am not a big fan of horror or vampires but the way you describe this movie I will definitely watch it. Thank you very much.
I have it now as I have been to the Video rental shop and will tell you tomorrow what I think. Thank you for the recommendation.
Yes, I agree with you in that this is not what I had expected. Though it contained scenes of horror and violence it was not very graphic and did not rely on special effects which is quite refreshing actually. The plot is very interesting and the atmosphere is electric. I am glad I watched it and I thank you for the recommendation. I will definitely follow your advice in future.
After reading your review of Let the Right One In I have come back to answer your comment here.
I love watching movies and when I find someone whose reviews I can trust I would normally accept their suggestions. It is not always easy for me to make decisions based on the reviews I read on Amazon because of the range of preferences. You get reviews on every movie with people loving it to hating it so in the end I prefer to ask people who seem to have the same taste as me.
I think it would be a good idea if there was a website with reviews from a group of people and once you found the person with your taste then you could simply log on to the website and ask your movie guru his/her about a movie you are thinking of getting or just asking for advice about good ones to watch.
Could you send give me a list of movie genre the way you would classify them and an example in each case and that would help me do what you have asked. This is because I have never thought about categorising movies I just like of not like and they come in all shapes and sizes! I am however drawn to movies that are true, and inspire. I also love when the movie has a underlying good message and helps me empathise with my fellow man. I do not watch much TV except for Discovery Channel and mostly watch movies I rent or buy. I have quite a collection built up over the years and wrote a hub on this topic too.
Thank you for the tip about IMDB it is pity you have stopped as I would certainly follow your reviews and I am not just saying this to get brownie points.
HubPages is a great place for you to write your reviews and I will be following them closely. Your reputation will increase as more people see how good your reviews are so keep them coming!
Very good review. I shall keep my eyes open for this movie. Sounds quite unusual. Thanks

I haven't heard of this movie before. It sounds good. I always find movies with children as protagonists very interesting, especially if the children act well. Good job on this hub. Voted up for an interesting review.
